Join me at the Community Food Co-op’s Cordata store (Cordata and Westerly in Bellingham) for a community barbecue next Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011. Whatcom Locavore (that’s me!) and several other local food writers will be on hand to share samples of our recipes and answer questions about what we do.
Look for the Whatcom Locavore table where I’ll be sharing information about eating as a locavore, and passing out samples of my Rustic Apple Tart with Cheesy Crust made with local Whatcom County ingredients. If you want to know how to eat local on a budget, how to signup for a CSA, how a u-pick farm operation works, what foods are available in the winter, or why you might want to eat as a locavore in the first place, I’ll be happy to share what I’ve learned about local eating. Or just stop by to say hello!
2012 Whatcom Locavore Calendar and Recipe Cards will also be available at my table. Each month is separate card with a mouth-watering photo of a locavore dish (photos by Joan Ging) and a calendar on the front. On the back is the recipe and food sources. The plastic case, similar to a CD case, opens out to make a stand so you can prop up one of the recipe cards on your counter for ease during cooking. The cases are reusable–next year I’ll have calendar card sets both with or without the cases so you can buy a refill. Calendars are $15 each. They make great gifts!
With live music, fabulous local food, and lots of activities and information for everyone, this promises to be a wonderful event. Hope to see you there at the barbecue on Saturday!
