Hot new finds in the local foods department this week were beautiful fresh English cucumbers and fresh pasta made in Bellingham. I found both in Terra Organica at the Public Market on the corner of Flora and Cornwall in Bellingham.
The English cucumbers were so green and beautiful that I asked the produce person to make sure that these were in fact locally grown. She smiled and said indeed they were, grown in the greenhouse of Dominion Organics in Ferndale. She also pointed out that the individual wrappers around the cucumbers were biodegradable.
I found the pasta in the Bargainica cooler section of Terra Organica, where they offer special sale prices on selected items. I wasn’t aware that anyone was making local pasta anymore for retail selling, so I was excited to see what they had available and give it a try. Pasta is a transitional food in this area, since grains aren’t grown here, but Bellingham Pasta Company makes special efforts to use local ingredients as much as possible. The pasta containers are also compostable.
Here’s the menu for the week:
I think you’ll find this is one of the tastiest menus so far!
