Learning to CookLast fall at a farm event, a woman told me she always enjoys reading my recipes. I asked her if she had a favorite. “Oh, I’ve never tried one,” she said. “I don’t know how to cook, but your recipes always sound so good.”

Since the 1970s, we’ve been told by scientists that eating eggs could increase our blood cholesterol, leading to clogged arteries. A lot of this was based on the fact that eggs contain cholesterol. Recently, though, researchers have changed their recommendations. For example, eggs also contain lecithin, which can help keep cholesterol in solution in the blood, helping to prevent it from being deposited in the blood vessels. When you eat a whole egg you get both cholesterol and lecithin, and they work together. Continue Reading

Sweet Potato Chips With Onion DipI don’t know anyone who doesn’t like potato chips, though the store-bought version is often a guilty pleasure. We all know the health hazards they present–transfats, high sodium, etc. But they’re just so…well, good!

Fortunately there are options. Making oven-baked potato chips isn’t very difficult, especially if you have a mandoline for slicing them thinly and quickly. (Be careful, those things are sharp!
